Time:                                                   Doors open 8 am

Location:                                            Thunder Mountain RallyX Track

A lot of behind-the-scenes work goes into making a fun event, and it begins long before the season starts. This is your chance to contribute your time and muscle towards the upcoming season.

The plan for this year is very ambitious, and we need as many volunteers as possible!

What to bring

Here is the list of items that would be very helpful for the work party:

  • Gloves

  • Shovels

  • Rakes

  • Saws

  • Clippers

  • Construction tools (for building stands)

  • Bobcats (we might be able to help with gas costs, please contact to arrange)

  • Culverts (compensation arrangements possible)

  • Treated wood (compensation arrangements possible)

  • Plate compactor (we might be able to help with gas costs, please contact to arrange)

The master plan

Track expansion

We intend to add about a hundred meters to the length of the track. This is a big job, and we will need to have a big excavator to do it. Fortunately, we have a great guy for the job, and plan to rent the machine if we can't find a sponsor.

Install culverts over the stream

There is a little stream in the middle of the area where we are expanding the track this year. To protect it, we will need to install two culverts. If you have any spare culverts laying around, please let us know.

Road expansion

So far we have been using an existing road as a start line.  Now we need to build another one on the side to create access for other users of the facility. Excavator and a Bobcat will have to take care of this.

Camping sites

The access road we need to restore will also lead to the new camping area.  This area is overgrown with trees. Fortunately all the trees are relatively small so a Bobcat can take care of the job.

Moving trees out of the way

There are some fallen trees that need to be moved. Most of them are small and medium size. While the Bobcat will be busy making campsites, volunteers with chainsaws will need to move the trees out of the way.

Widening of the track

There are couple of places where we need to extend the width of the track. Pretty much same as above - Excavator/Bobcat.

Stocking up wood for colder month

As the result of the clean up we will have lots of wood. We would like to cut it up and store through the summer, so that it can be used in colder time for camp fires.

Fixing track surface

There are some places where we want to fill in the ruts and even out the surface of the track.  Most of this can be done with our little tractor. Some places would really benefit from a plate compactor.

Removing garbage

We will need to remove lots of garbage from the track.  We will need volunteers to go around and collect trash from around the area. We will also need to load stuff in the trucks to take to the dump on the way home.

Clearing out the spectator island

We want to build some seating for friends and families to enjoy events.  First, we will have to remove some growth from the island.  Some chain saws and pruning shears should do the trick.

Bring bleachers over from drag strip

Okanagan Auto Sports Club is ready to share some of the bleachers with us, so we can build spectator seating.  We will need a couple of strong guys or gals with a truck to bring them over.

Build the stands

There is some wood at the track that we want to try to use for the stands. Some work tools will help in the job. Also if you have unused treated wood that you want to share, we would greatly appreciate it.

We will be serving free lunch at the event

We hope to see you there!
